Lecture on “Mahatma Gandhi Ethical Leadership and Transformational Change”
On October 7, 2014, The Institute of Oriental Philosophy (IOP) organized a lecture titled, “Mahatma Gandhi
Ethical Leadership and Transformational Change,” by Ms. Shobhana
Radhakrishna, President of Centre for Gandhian Vision & Values.
Ms. Radhakrishna spent part of her life in Gandhiji’s Sewagram Ashram in Wardha and has dedicated her life to the cause of rural development to serve the poor and underprivileged communities.
Since 2010, as an ‘Eminent Citizen’ for the Ministry of Rural
Development, Government of India, she has conducted independent
monitoring and assessment of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment
Guarantee Act for strengthening the implementation of the works,
observes the best practices and innovation that were undertaken in the
implementation of the Act in Bihar.
Ms. Shobhana Radhakrishna gave lectures at the IOP in 2009 and 2011, and this was her third visit to Japan.
In her lecture, Ms.
Radhakrishna explained Mahatma Gandhi’s thought of non-violence, his
religious view and leadership and emphasized that Gandhi’s faith was in
ultimate reality of Truth which he endeavored to attain it through
non-violence, throughout his life. She said that Gandhi has made
significant contributions in economics, spirituality, conflict
resolution, international peace, education politics and more. She
stressed hoq Gandhi demonstrated that non-violence was not a passive,
weak force, but an active force full of possibility, and that this force
needed to be applied to different fields.
